It’s not about you, it’s about them. Your customers. They don’t really care about your industry jargon, accolades and your claims of superior service. Your customers want to know what’s in it for them.
Your website visitors came to your website for a reason. Maybe they need information, products, entertainment, any number of reasons. Are you giving it to them? Or are you too busy trying to make the sale or collect a lead to give them what they really want?
Whatever it is, make sure you give it to them and make it easy to get to it. Don’t hide your best content or most popular products; put them right out in front for people.
What’s in it for them?
Let them know what you have to offer. Maybe it’s the best pricing. Maybe it’s a no questions asked return policy. Free overnight delivery. 20,000 satisfied customers. Innovative features not offered by the competition. 30 day money back guarantee. Customized products. Access to information that will improve their lives. Cutting edge thought leadership. Whatever it is, let them know because it’s about them, not about you.
Unique Value Proposition
Your UVP (unique value proposition) is the thing that makes you different from all your competitors. You need to make your UVP clear and compelling so first time visitors can learn what you’re about. There are a dozen, hundred, thousand, who knows how many businesses online that sell the same product or service as you. What makes you different?
Where am I? What can I do?
A visitor may be on your site for the first time and never heard of your company before. They might have just clicked a link with your company name and come over to you from another site. Do they know who you are yet? Do they know what to do? It goes back to what’s in it for them and the unique value proposition informing them.
This is where a tagline in the header of your website can be beneficial. If you build your tagline of UVP into your site template, then it will appear on every page of the site. First time visitors will see it no matter what page of the site the enter from.
It all comes back to serving your audience. Give them what they want and turn them into loyal followers.
